Smitherman and his role as a co-founder of Black Wall Street who was indicted for inciting what became known as the Tulsa Race Massacre of 1921. A.J. Smitherman was a Press Pioneer & Political Visionary and was Editor and Publisher of The Tulsa Star,  the first Democratic Daily newspaper in America.
